Great investment
I have several Calphalon pans. I especially love the lid and not needing to use a separate strainer to drain off the water or grease. BEWARE...This pot holds the heat!!! I set the hot pot on a hot pad and the hot pad fused to the bottom of the pan. I am devastated!!! I have only had the pan for a few months. I have tried everything to remove the melted fabric from the bottom of the pan with no success 😔 "RIP PAN"I highly recommend this pot just be careful where you set the pot when it is still HOT 🔥

i NEEDED ONE FOR YEARS
I had a great Lamb shank recipe that called for a Dutch Oven to properly prepare the dish. Like transfer from the stove to the oven to slow cook to provide the proper tenderness to the meat. I liked what I saw on line and ordered it. It was perfect. Once the meal was done, cleanup was very easy. I think the price is great for such a fine item

Most versatile pot i’ve got
Amazing quality product! it works as intended, for stews, oven braise, shallow frying, sautéeing, even making pasta. everything comes out great from this. Care is very simple, goes in the dishwasher and hand wash. Would recommend!

purchase to replace older version of same brand and size.
wow, my old 5 qt Dutch Calphalon, did not have vent of any kind with lid design and often boiled over. THIS model has pour spout on two sides, solid and vented rim area's on lid. it is 90% increase in successfully sweating vegies, searing meats, and simmering stews. Packaging was slightly damaged but no major flaws or dents to the product. No visible scratches of flaws in the non stick surface...best deal ever.

I like this pan
At first I was bummed because it was hand-wash only (I didn't pay attention to the description) but I got over it pretty quickly. Hand washing it after use isn't really an issue, although I do run it thru the dishwasher every now and then if I'm feeling lazy. Hasn't turned into a pumpkin yet. Pan is great, not warped or peeling or anything. The lid hasn't shattered and the world hasn't ended. Yes the handles get hot over a gas flame (duh). I use this pan for everything from long slow simmers, to making a big batch of scrambled eggs, to sauteing fish fillets. It's the perfect size!

[Edit 6/6/21] it’s been almost exactly two years since I bought this Dutch oven so I thought I’d post an update. I’m very pleased at how evenly the heat is distributed, how easy it is to clean - especially the lid - the size, appearance and durability. I’m no chef but I do cook quite a bit and this workhouse performs effortlessly day after day. I’m very glad I bought it.[/Edit]I started steaming seitan and so needed to up my Dutch oven game. After quite a bit if searching I found this and I’m really very glad. When I opened the box there must have been some sort of optical illusion because it looked so small! When I took it out and compared it to my old Dutch oven it morphed into its real size. No, I wasn’t smoking anything lol. It’s a nice size and the large diameter helps when steaming. This DO is pretty much exactly what I was looking for. The right size, weight and a nice look. Oh, and easy to clean. Couldn’t ask for more.

the dutch oven is great for cooking pasta (update) and subs well for a heavier dutch oven
Be very careful when pouring out your pasta water. Line the holes in cover up with the lip of the pot and slowly pour your pasta water our of the pot. If you pour the water out too quickly the water will pour out of the sides of the pot and you will probably get burned. Other than that, the dutch oven is great for cooking pasta. It is a bit flimsy but would work for most other meals prepared in a dutch oven.UPDATE: This pot is sort of flimsy. Bottom of pan is thin, however I do love it for cooking pasta. Make sure the holes in the cover are lined up with the pouring lips on the pot and the water pasta cooking water will pour out easily and safely. Small pasta shapes like ditalini and orzo will escape through the draining holes. I have made chicken soup in this pop a few times and it worked find. I made a brisket yesterday (browning it on the stovetop then in the oven at 350 F for 3 hours) and did get some fond. The brisket was delicious. It cleans easily and beautifully when hand washed. I would not put it in the dishwasher. I wish the pot was a bit heavier, therefore only 4 stars.
