Don't agree with the bad reviews
I think this product is getting discontinued due to bad reviews. What a shame! Fortunately, I was able to pick this up when it was discounted 80% albeit in used condition. For the money, it gets 5 stars. I'd probably give it 5 stars even at $500, but maybe not $750.1. This is actually a pretty good machine, better than the 54mm Breville, in my opinion.2. Like many of the reviewers, my grinder stopped working after a couple uses, but I was able to fix it. Here's how. The finely ground coffee got compacted in the innards and jammed the motor. The dark roasted oily beans I used probably had a lot to with it. The trick to fixing it is recognizing that it's just compacted solid coffee grounds. I almost gave up after my initial cleaning didn't fix the problem. But fortunately, I went back to give another shot at fixing it. It's hard to see the dark inside and understand it's the compacted grounds that's the problem until I used a pick to break up the compacted grounds from underneath. You should be able to see daylight from above with the top burr removed once the blockage is cleared. Once I figured that out, it was just a matter of keep poking and breaking it apart and vacuuming it out until the motor is freed.3. Therefore, don't fill the hopper full of beans. Just weigh and put in the desired amount of beans for each cup. Run the grinder until there are no beans left in the hopper each time used. You can tell the grinder is empty by the sound. The advanced home baristas will do this anyway to make a consistent cup so it's no big deal. The folks who want everything automated with just a push of a button probably won't like weighing the beans for every cup. I also found that the retention in the grinder is practically nil if you let the grinder run on empty while tapping on the hopper lid until no more ground fall. So you can get almost exactly the dose in grounds as what you put in in beans.4. This machine has some features that are found in machines costing thousands more which they failed to communicate. It is very programmable and that should have been their biggest selling point which they completely failed to discuss and sell in the description. Yes, the professional 58mm portafilter, preinfusion, double thermoblock boilers, and PID are great features standard on high end espresso machines. But what sets this machine apart is its programmability at this price point. Until you read the manual, you don't know that the preinfusion time, dosage amount per shot (don't use per above), water volume per shot, and temperature in 3 degree increments are also programmable. Now the programming isn't intuitive, which is something that could be improved. But that would up the price to add an LCD screen. Obviously, the settings can also be used manually too if you prefer.I hope they don't discontinue this product. It's similar and a good competitor to the Brevilles.

Huge pass
Let me start by saying I have the model that doesn’t have the grinder (actually have two, one for home and one in camper!) and I have never had an issue with either. So when this came up “used” at half price I grabbed it. The used wasn’t the issue lol. The issue was the grinder stopped working after two tries. I cleaned it, vacuumed it out (I am very technical) and couldn’t get it to work again. The other issue was with the shot pull. I never got the pressure gauge to get into the right “zone” regardless of grind. It was always low pressure. Returned after 24hrs sadly, I had really high hopes. Oh and I did contact Calphalon customer service - NO response. Such a bummer

Makes great expresso but…
While this expresso machine makes great tasty expresso. The bean grinder stopped working after just two weeks. The milk frother is just average at best.

Temp IQ Dual Boiler - Really Disappointing. Go for a different brand.
The first time I ordered this it arrived damaged. The grinder had a broken piece which made it unusable. Against my better judgement I returned the machine and reordered it. Everything was great for about two weeks and then everything stopped working. First the grinder. It constantly clogged and the settings to set how fine to grind the beans weren’t functional. Then the actual machine stopped working. It over-pressurized and shut off constantly or water wasn’t flowing from the reservoir so it wasn’t even able to extract espresso.I wanted to love this machine so much because I had bought the Calphalon machine without the grinder as a gift a few years ago and that one is still going strong. To be honest just get the Breville. It’s really worth the extra money.

Went downhill quickly…
This Calphalon Temp IQ espresso machine (w/burr grinder) started out nicely but after two weeks it completely started to fall apart at the seams! First issue, was that the portafilter NEVER worked well. It was very temperamental in level of grounds and the only way we could easily slide it on to lock in place to brew was to under fill it by a gram or so. So the espresso taste was compromised, or you filled to correct level and you broke your back trying to slide the portafilter on! Literally - haven’t had to go to the chiro for over a year until now. We must have a lemon or need to lift weights??? I think the former. Then the handle on the portafilter completely snapped off rendering it useless. Then we used the grinder to just grind some beans for our old coffee maker and the grinder jammed up and it is a PITA to get it unjammed. You cannot take out the very bottom piece that has trapped beans in it so I had to try to vacuum it and that didn’t work because it is such a small crevice to get into.We were already getting ready to return this but that is just comical that this fell apart so quickly. The issue I can see is that this is made of plastic parts that are important components of the machine, I.e. the portafilter is not 100% metal and the portafilter slides into a plastic space where the espresso is brewed from - so you have metal from the portafilter basket rubbing onto plastic, which resulted in friction and plastic shreds coming down from the top of the brew area. Considering this is a $700 machine and not the cheapest but not the most expensive, I would have thought it would be a way better machine. Lesson learned that we need to get a $1,500+ machine and/or make sure it is NOT made in China of plastic parts.
The best machine
The machine works perfect with no issues at all .The best machine ever
