Beautiful spoons!!!

High quality and beautiful. Super sturdy, and the flat head spoon works amazingly well.

Not worth the money

This spoon came from a reputable brand, so I decided to give it a try, despite the price. I've had it for about 3 months. When I got it, I was disappointed to realize that it was raw wood with no kind of sealing done at all. A cooking spoon will be used in wet environments, and so a sealant, like oil, is important. As I expected, the spoon did not hold up. It has cracked right down the center of the bowl (round part), making it unusable, because it will now gather mold, bacteria, etc, and be impossible to get clean.

Just as picture, came quick. Size is great. Haven’t used or cleaned it yet. I was excited to get it and even more to use it. Seams sturdy and I love this tool. Will post more when I have used it. I am sure it will be 5 stars!

The best wooden spoon I've ever had!

I've been using this wooden spoon for almost a year now and it's the best I've ever seen. The grain is still smooth with no signs of splitting, staining, or the grain becoming raised and fuzzy. It's also such a graceful looking spoon. Very comfortable to use. I don't put it in the dishwasher or leave it setting in water after use. I've treated it maybe once with John Boos Mystery Oil and Block Board Cream. I can see this lasting years. More than I can say about other wood spoons out there that struggle to survive more than a few months.

The best spoon everrrr

I used to think that as long as a spoon had a handle with one end slightly wider, it would do the job just fine. However, after having to cook for several years for my growing family, I came across the Serious Eats article on wooden spoons and was intrigued.People, that review on SE is legit and this wooden spoon is the best. The shape of the spoon with that flat tip really does help scrape the bottom of the pot and does a great job at breaking up ground beef, and those little seemingly decorative rings carved around the handle add a little extra grip to an already comfortable curved handle.I just tried this spoon on a big pot of chili and this was clearly better than the wooden spoon I had been using before.

Great Spoon, needs TLC

This is a GREAT spoon and works for everything you can imagine, but does require a bit of TLC because the beechwood used is very porous. Do's and Don'ts I learned the hard way:DO hand wash only with eco-friendly dish soap like Ecover Naturally Derived Liquid Dish Soap, Zero Fragrance-Free, 25 Ounce (Pack of 6). It will turn white from dryness (and presumably eventually warp/split) if you use a regular dish detergentDO use the soft side of a sponge or dishcloth to washDO dry it immediately after washing (although I have left it to air dry and it's been ok)DO oil and wax it regularly (I use John Boos MYSB Mystery Butcher Block Oil, 16 Ounce Bottle and John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream, 5 ounce Tube, which I use on my cutting boards and all wooden utensils)DON'T wash with the abrasive side of a sponge (it will roughen the surface immediately, requiring sanding)DON'T let it soak in waterDON'T put it in the dishwasherAll of these lessons I learned the hard way! :) and I still love it. I tried cheaper alternatives, but they don't feel as well designed (too heavy, not able to get into corners and edges as well etc.). In the end, this is now the only wooden spoon I use in my kitchen. I still begrudge the price, but given how I abused it in the beginning and how well it responded to a little bit of care, I don't regret it, and actually highly recommend it. Like many, I bought because of Kenji Lopez-Alt's recommendation on Serious Eats, and it was a good call.UPDATE Mar 2024: still using and loving this spoon!

Fine Tool; Beats Nylon Implements

I go back and forth in my mind over spatulas. Well, I cook a lot and am as fussy about my kit as a trout fisherman is about his hobby. I have purchased and used plenty of higher-end nylon spatulas but they don't work very well for scraping as they are made to flex. I don't like synthetic non-stick pans; yet I don't want to scratch the enamel on my Le Creuset lined cast iron 'treasures.' This beechwood item is just the thing (and bamboo would work as well.) This is a hefty product in the sense that the handle fills the hand and is strong...but it is also light and well-balanced. It has been working fine for a month or so at scraping my pans. Okay...I LOVE this. You may find that the wood is 'harsh' to the touch. I oil my 'treen' (wood implements; bowls; whatnot) regularly and never run them through the dish washer or use harsh detergents. If you do as I do, you will also find this tool to be a comfortable and faithful friend. The scraping edge is holding up well and I find its functionality and lifespan exceeds nylon products.
