You can feel the quality by just putting one in your hand.
Other than holiday/special event dinnerware, I've never held or used really nice dishware, at least that is what I think now. I've always been drawn to ceramic instead of china and like a hand crafted style when I pick out new dishes, I feel safer with something that has a little weight to it and some thickness. Ever since having kids I've had to worry a lot more about what might get broken, if you know, then you know...The first impression of these dishes that I got was the box from amazon, which I knew had the dinner plates and the side bowls in it, as well as another item I had ordered, but felt really really light for all of that and worried me some. Once I got the box open and pulled out the plate box I Was shocked at just how heavy the plates themselves were, it felt like the plate box was actually heavier than the shipping box with the other items in it too. Once that initial surprise wore off, I noticed how small the plate box was, I was not expecting the dish size to be what it was.I immediately got another shocking surprise when I opened the box and did not see the plates inside, but a really cool cutout design in the cardboard. This put a smile on my face right away, I don't know why, but even expecting it, I started smiling again when I opened the box with the side bowls. Once I got over that too, and looked at the plates, I noticed their size, which actually was another thing that made me happy, I have a portion control issue and having new, sleek, slightly smaller plates means I can't put as much on them! Don't get me wrong, they are not tiny plates at all, but they are not American sized (which I consider a plus). (After I wrote this review, I went to add my pictures... that is when I realized that I loved the packaging so much I never took a picture of the plates! The good news is they look like the product images and there are already many, many photos of the plates, including pictures of the stand marks from where they were held up to fire/glaze)These plates are smooth and well weighted, evenly balanced for easy carrying, and have a rounded raised part on the bottom instead of a "rim" underneath like cheap plates have. I've been a little concerned about dropping the plates without that rim to keep them in my hand, but so far have not had any issues at all.I selected the red trim on the plates and it looks marvelous! I love seeing them in my cabinet every time I open it up so much, that sometimes I don't use these dishes, just so they will still be in there the next time I open the cabinet door!I want to note I did mark down one star on value for the price, for even though I firmly believe these are quality plates, they do come with a "Quality" price, and while I feel that people that make quality products deserve to be rewarded by earning a good price for their work, in the current world, you can buy much cheaper plates that are going to last you just as long, and you can eat off them too. If you are ready to buy something nice for yourself that you don't need a loan for, I think this is a good way to go, I do have the "beauty marks" that the other reviewers have mentioned, but nothing annoying about them, to me it makes the dishes feel like someone took the time to make them, instead of paying a factory in china to push the out a few thousand a day.I am at a point in my life where I like nice things, but feel bad buying them when they don't last any longer than a significantly cheaper item that does the same thing. These dishes are the same, I love the way they look, the way they feel, and the fact that they are not big enough to hold a 15 inch pizza. But, I do not know if I like them enough to buy the rest of the collection. They are my favorite dishes in the cabinet and any time a non-family member is going to get a plate from the cabinet, you better believe it will be one of these. I think the shock and surprise of the feel and weight of them will hit every person that holds them. You can feel the quality by just putting one in your hand.

This is yet another beautiful offering from Made In, and much like the bakeware and carbon steel roaster I have in my kitchen, the quality and performance are outstanding.I love the red rims and the simple, clean look of the pure white. It's casual but elegant, and regardless of what I serve on these, it looks great, and they really brighten up the table.Quality:It's vitreous china, and it's made to last. I could find no flaws in the glazing, the red rimming is precisely done, and matched from plate to plate. The glaze covers the entire plate, and I appreciate that. No raspy bottoms to grate against each other when stacking, and no scratching my table or countertops. The full coverage of the glaze also precludes any water absorption (and eventual 'crazing', i.e., cracking in the glaze)', as well as zero chance of bacteria buildup. They're 100% sealed. As far as the vitreous glaze, it's the most durable, non-porous, heat tolerant material available. It's super-fine to the touch, and when I rinsed these after washing, they 'squeaked' in my hands like fine leaded crystal.*Just a bit of trivia: "vitreous china" is the glazing material that most high-quality sinks, baths, as well as really fine china are made with. Fine china like this is a higher, finer grade of porcelain, and the weight and smoothness on these speaks to that. To put it simply, they're extremely durable and super-smooth.As far as performance, these are microwavable, dishwasher-safe, and oven-safe to over 400°F. I doubt that I'd use them as cookware, per se, but I can see myself using them to keep things warm in the oven for serving. It's nice to know that they're that durable, though.Design:I really love the shape of the rims and the dimension of the serving area. The flute of the rims isn't too large, and they're angled just right to keep things from spilling. The 10" diameter (fairly standard, though I've had larger) leaves room on my placemats for items like coffee, water, shakers, and other serving items.Overall, these are winners for me. They're beautifully done, and the quality makes them true 'legacy items' to be kept and passed down to future generations.I've been the 'head chef' in my home for 40+ years, and I really couldn't be more pleased with these.I've had a variety of items over the years, from stoneware to melamine, Pfaltzgraff to Mikasa, and these are the finest I've had. They would also make for a much-appreciated gift.Lastly, due to the everything I've mentioned above, I'd say they're also an exceptional value.

Gorgeous, elegant, understated luxury
I was a Corelle gal. I love me my cheap, lightweight, thin, chip proof dinnerware. But when I saw the deep blue rim of these plates, and knowing the high quality standards this company holds themselves to, I was drawn to try these out.I'm SO glad I did. I find myself reaching for these Made In Cookware - Dinner Plates over and over again. They feel so luxurious without being flashy. The blue is darker than in the description pictures and absolutely stunning. The white is more like a bone china white than a stark white; see my comparison photo with a Corelle Winter Frost White dessert plate.I loved them so much I got a white set, too, which is just as beautiful! The color in the rim has some slight variations, so when stacked it will not line up exactly perfectly. It's all part of the appeal unless you're a perfectionist. It doesn't look cheap or sloppy at all, just part of genuine ceramics. The size is perfect, the gloss is amazing, and they even survived my baby getting to them and banging one of them against the stack! Though I wouldn't recommend testing that too intensely. I'm excited to see how these hold up to normal wear and tear, since I'm not accustomed to handling my dishes delicately at all.I loved them so much I got a white set, too, which is just as beautiful! If you are on the fence, just know that they feel and look as amazing as everyone is saying. If you can afford the splurge, they're worth it.
Gorgeous
Simply put, these are gorgeous and I love the fit, form, and functionality. I would purchase more of these and think they should last a very long time
